Part of our family vacation to New Jersey included a special side trip to Washington D.C. Uncle Frank and Aunt Mary-Jane joined us, and they really made the trip wonderful. They go to Washington D.C. about 3 or 4 times a year and so they have a really good handle on what there is to do, what is worth doing, what we have to do, and what we really could live without :) We walked so much during these 3 days! It sort of reminded me of when we were in Italy and walked and walked and WALKED everywhere, but well worth it!
When we arrived in D.C we stopped at the Air and Space Museum.This was pretty cool, probably not my top choice, but I think my dad and the boys really liked it.

After that we settled into the hotel and then headed out for dinner at The Hard Rock Cafe. Callan and his friend Ben who came along for the trip really liked all of the music history there. The food was decent but even better was just being with the family, laughing and hanging out. After dinner we started the lonnnnnng walk towards some of the monuments. We took the route to the Washington Monument then to the World War II Memorial, and then up to the Lincoln Memorial. All of these were spectacular in the night sky all lit up.

It was really beautiful and made me feel very proud of our country and it's history. The walk from the World War II Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial was pretty terrible. It was so hot when we were visiting, and I think every mosquito in the whole city was birthed out of the Reflecting Pool. It was like swimming through mosquitoes they were so thick! Once we got up to the Lincoln it was well worth all of the buggies. He's so big!!
Day two resulted in trips to the museums and looking at all of the cool history of our country. A good day to be inside the air conditioned museums because it was about 98 degrees!

One of my favorite parts of the Smithsonian was the First Ladies area. Here the dresses, shoes, and accessories the First Ladies wore to the Inaugural Balls or other important events were on display.

Day three was a short one for me because I was leaving to head back to Iowa, but we did pack it full! We started early and went and checked out the White House. I saw Obama and gave him a high-five. {Okay I didn't but some people might think that was funny} We then went to the Capital and had a tour of the inside. It was really beautiful, lots of great art, marble floors, walls etc. Almost again reminded me of Italy and some of the buildings we went visited there.
